The Danube is the longest river in Europe after the Volga. He is located in Central and Eastern Europe and used to be the border of the Roman Empire. Today it flows through 10 countries, it originates in Germany, flows to the southeast for 2,850 km and passes through or borders Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria, Moldova and Ukraine where it flows into the Black Sea. The water basin extends over nine other countries. The catchment area of the Danube is home to fish species such as pike, zander, huchen, Welsh catfish, kwibaal and tench. It also contains a wide variety of carp and sturgeon, as well as salmon and trout. A few species of euryhaline fish, such as European sea bass, red mullet and eel, inhabit the Danube delta and the lower part of the river.
