Bulgarian ski centers have become very popular and can compete with the classic center in the Alps in France, Switzerland, Austria, or North Italy. With this advantage that Bulgaria is a lot cheaper than other countries offering winter holidays. This counts for the service in the hotels as well as on the ski pistes. And that becomes interesting if you travel with the whole family! The best-known centers are Bansko and Borovets.

Bulgaria Ski-lifts in Bansko
Improvements to the infrastructure of the ski area on Todorka are most responsible for Bulgaria’s rising share in European winter tourism. In 2003 they built a gondola lift replacing the ride in a minibus from town to the base area of Banderishka Poliana. Since 2010, the ski area has had 75 km (47 mi) of ski runs, 14 lifts, and drags that can serve up to 24,500 persons per hour. The lift-served summit is 2,600 m (8,500 ft) above sea level and has a vertical drop of over 1,600 m (5,200 ft).

There are about 20 ski pistes. Depending on the difficulty they are labeled green, red, blue or black.
Ski lifts are of type gondola, 4-seat, or drag. Within skiing, there is also night skiing and cross-country skiing. Except for skiing, other winter sports are ski-doo, ski jumping, and ski instruction. The latter is of high level and low cost compared to other European ski centers.
